A group of related North Americian tribes, speaking a language that forms a branch of the Nadene linguistic stock. The 14 divisions of the Tlingit may reflect a former era when they were entirely independant tribes. Among the divisions are the Chilkat, Yakutat, Stinkine, Sitka, Auk and the Huna. The Tlingit live in Southeastern Alaska, along the coast and on the islands of Sitka, south to Prince of Wales Island and north to the Copper River.
